POVERTY: Why is it so pervasive? What does the Bible say about it? “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, “Come back tomorrow, and I’ll give it to you” when you already have it with you.” Proverbs 3:27-28, “Those who give to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to them receive many curses.” Proverbs 28:27
The Jacket/Coat Drive was a HUGE success! So many of you gave in a BIG way. AFC Ministries received an outpouring of blessings! We collected 40 men’s, women’s and children’s jackets! Through your generosity, you gave $1,000.00 towards the purchase of 38 more jackets to those on the streets, in men’s shelters and to women’s and children’s homeless programs throughout the greater Sacramento area. We were able to give 78 jackets to those who had none! What you gave was amazing! What God did with what you gave was phenomenal! When our hearts are turned toward God wonderful and miraculous things happen! The word of God tells us to GO and so we go into homeless camps, to children’s receiving homes, prisons and places others would dare not go. There are so many vulnerable and at-risk people living outside and they suffer because they lack everything. America with all its wealth is beginning to look like a third world country, as the number of homeless individuals grows. We can’t reach everyone, but we do what we can to help. God does not need us to help Him, but He calls and invites us to join Him. Joining God means listening to His voice, obeying His word and trusting where He leads us. THANK YOU for listening, obeying and trusting God! You are AWESOME and what an AWESOME God we serve! . “Love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all of your soul and with all of your strength and with all of your mind and love your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27
What Is A Survival Pack?
Survival packs are distributed by AFC Ministries often daily to those living on the streets. The contents vary depending on the season and for males or females. During the winter the pack, a vinyl, waterproof sandbag is filled with gloves, socks, a rain poncho, a watch cap, mask, jacket/sweatshirt and/or a long sleeve shirt. Some contain a sleeping bag or blanket. We also include personal hygiene items (body wipes, a toothbrush, shampoo, toilet tissue or wipes, toothpaste and deodorant). We add feminine hygiene products for the ladies. In every pack we include snacks: crackers, breakfast bars, sardines or another shelf stable potted meat, fruit and bottled water. When the weather changes, we remove the heavier clothing items and replace them with tank tops or loose-fitting shirts, sunscreen, flip flops and caps or bush hats for protection from the sun. Each pack contain Christian “tracks” allowing us to witness and share the gospel. We pray over each pack before delivery in hopes that the recipient will come to know Christ as their personal savior. This type of outreach “street” ministry is not for the weak at heart. We asked God to break our hearts with the things that break His, and this is where He sends us…
Meet This Month’s Board Member
Pastor Pam Silas. Pastor Pam is AFC’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Board Vice Chairperson, and all around “cheer-leader.” She has a gift and love for God and for His people in the area of outreach. In addition to everything else that she does, she spends time sharing the love of Christ with those living on the streets, on meridians, in camps and on the side of the roads. She shares a simple message, “God Loves You” as she smiles while distributing survival packs to those in need. Her approach is impromptu, she goes where God leads her. Her strategy…prayer. Pastor Pam and her ninety-two-year-old Mom and trusty sidekick, Mother Harris, are often seen riding the streets, highways and the hedges of Sacramento praying and waiting for God to respond “yes.” They wait until God invites and sends them to share a word and a Survival pack with someone that they sense needs something. She and Mother Harris are a force to be reckoned with when they are on a mission for God. Pastor Pam is a serious “fisherman.” Retired Air Force God has allowed Pastor Pam to give her time, talents and treasures to those in need. Her favorite scripture phrase, “nevertheless not my will, but thine be done”. Her favorite tagline from the Starfish story – “It matters to this one!” ☆. We thank and Praise God for Pastor Pam’s commitment, her decerning spirit, and her heart for ministry.

Lend A Hand If You Can
Saint John’s Women Shelter houses women and children. They provide child-care, education and encouragement for Moms in crisis and in need of a better life. Saint John’s lost many of their volunteers during COVID and they are just getting back to “normal.” They offer many opportunities for those looking to volunteer. They need help in their kitchen preparing food for residents, in the warehouse and the donation center organizing. Assistance is needed in the office as well as helping in other areas of operation. If you would like to help, check them out on their website at www.saintjohnsprogram.org. For more information send an email to info@saintjohnsprogram.org or www.facebook.com/VolunteersofSaintJohnsProgram.
MissionOutreach 2022/23
Please pray with and for us as we join others in outreach opportunities throughout Sacramento in 2022/23. Sometimes we are in new and uncharted territories as we reach out to those less fortunate. We are few, but God provides in advance and we look forward to what He does when we move out of our comfort zones. It is always exciting!
